September 2026

August was the biggest month this site had had. September doubled it.
Data window: 1 to 30 September 2026 · Pulled 12 October 2026 · Sources: Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush · Compared against August 2026
Two notes before the numbers. First, Ben has been away for three weeks, which is why this one lands in the middle of October rather than early in it. Second, Google Search Console keeps revising recent months upward as it finishes counting, so August now reads 218 clicks and 22,223 impressions here, against the 200 and 20,619 published on the August tab. Every comparison below uses the revised August figures, so the growth you see is a fair like-for-like.

What September says

September doubled August, and August was the record. Clicks went from 218 to 464 and impressions from 22,223 to 45,603. Organic visitors grew 93%, and organic search is now the single biggest way people arrive on your site, ahead of your paid ads for the first time at any real scale: 592 visits against 356.

Almost all of the growth came from the guide articles. Eight of your ten busiest pages in Google are guides, and together they went from 80 clicks in August to 285 in September. The 4WD tracks map alone pulled 79 clicks, up from 21. These are the pages people land on while they are researching a K'gari trip, well before they have heard of The Haven, and that is exactly the audience worth winning.

Your homepage, where most people who already know the name arrive, sat at 56 clicks against 63 in August. That is a drop of seven clicks on a small base, so treat it as noise rather than a signal. The page worth watching is best place to stay on fraser island, which was shown 4,244 times in September, more impressions than any other page in your top ten, and turned that into 20 clicks against 8 in August. Lots of people are being offered it and not many are clicking yet, which is the pattern of a page sitting just below where it needs to be.

Last month's one soft number turned around. In August we flagged that click-through rate had eased to 0.98% and warned it would likely keep drifting while Google showed the site for more and more searches. It went the other way: 1.02% in September. Clicks grew a shade faster than impressions, which means the new visibility is landing on searches people actually click, not just piling up at the bottom of page two. It is a small move on a small base, so do not read too much into the decimal, but the direction is the one we wanted.
On the season. You run a seasonal business, and September heads into the warmer travel months, so part of this lift is the time of year rather than the work. We cannot separate the two yet. Search Console holds nothing before December 2025, so September 2025 returns no data and there is no year-on-year comparison to make. The first true one arrives in December, and from then on every month gets measured against the same month a year earlier.

Rankings

There is no positions table this month. The August report showed 27 tracked keywords checked live on Google Australia as at 2 September 2026. That check runs off a tracked keyword list on the reporting side, and there is no list in place for this month, so no live check ran. Getting it back in place is on the list below. In the meantime, here is what the sources we do have say about where you are showing up.

SEMrush samples Google Australia independently of Search Console, and it currently finds the site ranking somewhere in Google's top 100 for 512 search terms, with an estimated 321 visits a month coming from them. Treat that as a second opinion on breadth rather than a precise count. SEMrush AU

The more useful read this month is page by page. These are your ten busiest pages in Google search, September against August.

These ten pages carried 361 of September's 464 clicks, so about 78% of your search traffic came through them. Search Console

The shape of that table is the story. Every page on it grew except the homepage, and the guides grew hardest. Two of them, the fishing guide and the 4WD question, barely registered in August and are now bringing 64 clicks between them. The accommodation page at the bottom is the one with real money behind it, and it has the most room left to move.

Total visits were up 41%, and nearly all of that came from organic search. Your paid ads and your direct traffic both grew gently, which is what you would expect from the season. Organic going from 36.5% to 50.1% of all visits in a month where the total also grew is the number to hold on to. Half of everyone arriving on the site now comes from a Google search you are not paying for.

On actions taken on the site, GA4 recorded 722 key events in September against 698 in August, up 3.4%. Inside that, form events rose from 2 to 8 and the Booking_Successful event fired 4 times against 1 in August. Numbers that small confirm the tracking is working, they do not yet tell you a trend, so we will keep reporting them and let a few more months build before reading anything into them. GA4

All figures measured in GA4 for consistency. Earlier monthly reports quoted the traffic figure from the SEO Work sheet, which counts slightly differently, so this table is not directly comparable to the numbers in those older emails. The months before August are on the Your story tab. GA4

AI answers

Visits from AI assistants held at 12 in September, the same as August. Eleven came from ChatGPT and one from Google Gemini. Holding level is fine at this size, and we would not read either a win or a problem into a dozen visits either way. This is still the channel that decides the next few years, so it stays in the report every month and we expect it to move in steps rather than a smooth line.

The August report also counted how many of your tracked searches had a Google AI answer above the results, and which of them cited The Haven. That count comes from the same live check that did not run this month, so there is no September figure for it. It returns as soon as the tracked keyword list is back in place.
